When it comes to negative outcomes for children in the city of Philadelphia, we recognize poverty at the intersection of failing systems of education, increased exposure to violence, and declining public health. Poverty is deeply rooted in systems of inequality and while we may not be able to unearth the cause, we do have the opportunity to reverse the outcomes through intervention and preventative measures to help end this savage generational cycle, and give our children a fighting chance.
